The Synchrohub platform has been developed in order to address the challenges encountered within an industrial project between the University of Manchester and E.ON. The purpose of the project has been to monitor and increase the understanding of load dynamics within the Western Power Distribution Network. Several load models in the literature had to be validated against real substation data and the development of new improved load models had to be investigated. The Synchrohub platform encompasses proxy routers for each substation installed PMU in order to establish a secure communication link over 4G, as well as its own Phasor Data Concentrator and a set of applications developed according to the strict Java Enterprise standards, which ensure a certain level of scalability, security and reliability. The PDC, as well as all algorithms and load models employed are optimized for real time operation.
